REVIEWS :: DANCER

Komala Varadan has now most judiciously selected appropriate verses from the Ram Charit Manas to present a full Bharatanatyam recital without changing the format or sequence. The recital remains within the steel frame work of Bharatanatyam but delicately the content and the text is replaced with the verses of Tulsidas. I am sure that like me, many will be able to reach the inner sanctrum of Bharatanatyam through the aid of accessability of Hindi verses.

- Dr. Kapila Vatsyayan Scholar, President, Indira Gandhi National Center for the Arts.

"It was for the first time that a classical art of this nature with a solo artiste performing for more than 90 minutes holding the attention of the audience had been presented in Bulgaria. "

- Alexander Tonev, Ambassador of Bulgaria in India

Creation through Tradition: Multi artist Komala Varadan, overcame the expressional limit of Indian Classical Dance. "However creation is limitless. Modern Bharatanatyam performance has limits to newly arrange Indian myths or fables. But I saw the possibility of overcoming those as I saw her self- made CD including meditative works about nature and environment. To do this, her careers as a painter photographer, and novelist have all worked together. "

- Haerre Choi, Editor in Chief of dance magazine MOMM, Korea, June 2005
