KALAIKOODAM

Kalaikoodam was established in Delhi in 1983 for the promotion of Arts, Literature and Culture. It is a Registered Society and a Voluntary Organisation. Komala Varadan is the Founder Director. During the 26 years of its existence, Kalaikoodam has done a lot of work to project the integrated culture of India by taking themes of relevance without any regional or linguistic consideration. A Unique feature of the Institute is that it includes in its scope all performing arts, the visual arts, literature and culture. It has a broad based approach to project the integrated culture of India by taking up themes of relevance without any regional, linguistic or other consideration. The primary aim is to promote research, documentation and new developments in the fields of arts, literature and culture, particularly with reference to India's ancient heritage, its evolution through the ages and its relevance to modern arts, aesthetics, literature, culture and social perception, thus bringing about better understanding and appreciation between the people of different regions of India.

  • KALAIKOODAM recently celebrated its Silver Jubilee for a whole year from July 2008 to July 2009. The Celebrations were formally inaugurated by Dr.Kapila Vatsyayan. The Chief Guest was Mr. A Parsuramen of UNESCO, Paris. Two National seminars, ‘Art and Culture for Indian Resurgence’ and ‘Towards A  Cultural Policy’ were organized in connection with the Silver Jubilee. A variety of programmes from different parts of the country every month like classical vocal music, instrumental music, classical dances, a chhau dance, a Punjabi drama, Marathi programme, a Taala Vadya Kutcheri ,  a Yakshagana performance with Hindi lyrics etc.were presented.  A Modern dance performance ‘Being Silent’ by a Dancer from Poland was also organised

‘Prakritim Vande’- Salutation to Nature, combining dance and photography by Komala Varadan with songs in 10 Indian languages was releasaed as a VCD by the Hon. Minister Shri S. Jayapal Reddy and the Kathak Maestro Pt. Birju Maharaj received the first copy.
