KALAIKOODAM
She founded KALAIKOODAM – Komala Varadan Institute of Art in Delhi in 1983, for the promotion of arts, literature and culture.
- Kalaikoodam organized a National Seminar on ‘Culture – the Undercurrent’ to explore the underlying unity in the cultural mosaic of India. The papers presented were published in book titled "India - A cultural Perspective" with a foreward from Dr.Karan Singh.
- Another seminar was on ‘The traditional influences on Indian Society’.
- A series of lectures organized in the literature series on ‘Urdu Opera’, ‘Sanskrit Drama in Ancient India’, ‘The place of Dance in the Tamil epic Silappadikaram’, ‘Modern Kannada literature’, ‘Modern Oriya literature’, ‘Sangam poetry in Tamil’, all evoked great interest.
- A Workshop on the ‘Mysore School Bharatanatyam’ with a performance by the Doyenne Dr. Venkatalakshamma was organised and the participants of the workshop on the last day presented a performance.
- A lecture on Traditional Performing Arts of Assam with reference to Neo Vaishnava tradition followed by a performance of Natun Kamalabari Satra drew excellent audience response.
