'Maya' depicts a scene from a jataka story choreographed by Komala.

Lord Budha's mother Maya and her friends are sporting happily in the Lumbini gardens. Maya sees a prancing deer. Her friend rells her the story of Mriga Jataka, of how a king deer saved the life of a preganant deer by sacrificing himself.

Once upon a time, in a beautiful grove there was a herd of deer dancing playfully. Then came the cruel king hunting them. The king deer offered to send a deer everyday to the king to prevent instant annihilation of the entire hers. As time passed, the turn came of an unfortunate pregnant deer. The king deer offered himself in place of this deer and by this supreme sacrifice he became a God among Gods. Maya's friend told her that this great soul was now in Maya;s womb to be born as Buddha to wipe out misery from this world.
