CREATIONS

Another signal contribution of Komala Varadan is her ‘Prakritim Vande ‘Salutation to Nature’, combining her talents as a dancer as well as a photographer. She has selected poems, both ancient and modern, from different Indian languages describing the various aspects and beauty of Nature. The poems set to music by her husband S.Varadan have been choreographed into dance numbers by Komala with great success. Komala Varadan's interest in ecology led her to choreograph 'PRAKRITM VANDE' as a Salutation to Nature, synthesising dance, music, poetry and photography. The video version of this programme won a 'Certificate of Special Merit in the International Film Festival on Nature and Nature related subjects organised WWF in 1994.

Prakritim Vande was telecast by Doordarshan in prime time in the National network and also in its International Channel. A clipping of this was shown in the news bulletin of American Television. Komala has presented it in many forums and received standing ovation including for the World Environment Day organised by the Ministry of Environment. Komala says "Our sages over the centuries have drawn attention to Nature and its vital importance to the existence of all beings". They have shown great concern for preserving the sensitive relationship between man and nature. For example Yagnavalka has dedicated his Suryaryastotram, to the sun who is the very eye of the universe and who provides it support and sustenance.

The powerful words of the poets set to inspiring music by S.Varadan and their depiction in dance interspersed with projection of colour slides on Nature taken by Komala herself as a photographer highlight the beauty and benevolence of Nature.
