Komala is a member of the Authors Guild of India. She writes in Tamil, her mother tongue as well as in English. She is a recognized author in Tamil.

• She has authored two novels and about 100 short stories in Tamil.
• Her stories have been translated in other languages – English, Kannada, Hindi, Urdu etc.
• Two collections of short stories in Tamil "Enakku Nee Vendum" & "Komala Varadan Kadaigal" and one translated into Hindi have been published.The collection of short stories translated into Hindi titled ‘Mujhe Theri Zaroorat Hai’ was released by the then President of India, Giani Zail Singh.
• One novel Vizhikkum Unarvugal has also come out as a book.
• Has won awards for her short stories from well known magazines in Tamil, Kalaimagal and Ananda Vikatan.
• She writes illustrated articles on a variety of subjects in English and Tamil.
