Komala is a member of the Authors Guild of India. She writes in Tamil, her mother tongue as well as in English. She is a recognized author in Tamil.
- She holds post graduate diploma in Journalism from Bhartiya Vidhya Bhawan, with Kulapati's Medal and Deccan Herald cash award for best student in Journalism.
- She has attended World Tamil Conferences held in India and abroad and she has presented a paper "Angkor Monuments - A Study" at the Vth world Tamil Conference.
- She has authored two novels and about 100 short stories in Tamil.
- Her stories have been translated in other languages - English, Kannada, Hindi, Urdu etc.
- One novel and two collections of short stories in Tamil and one translated into Hindi have been published.
- Has won awards for short stories from well known magazines in Tamil, Kalaimagal and Ananda Vikatan.
